Texas Cereal (Jalapeño Pear)
Name a fruit you love to eat but don’t ever eat enough of… For my wife and I it’s pears. So when the garden kept producing large quantities of jalapeños, it made sense to make another “mild” hot sauce for our less Scoville-friendly friends, and pears just seemed like a great choice as a sweetener.
The resulting sauce is probably our sweetest and one that really struck a note with my Texas friend Todd. He liked it so much, he told me it was “good enough to put on his cereal”. When he kept repeating it to me as he went through bottle after bottle, we knew it just had to be his sauce. And so Texas Cereal it will be from now on. Although the first version was made with pears from our local Fresh Thyme, we now make it with Bartlett pears from our backyard tree.
